The Company

Beginning

In 1860 Demerara Distillers Europe, then under its former name Breitenstein Products, began trading in tropical products. From the former Dutch East Indies they imported cane sugar and coffee intended for the Dutch market. Thanks to Breitenstein´s extensive knowledge of the export country and the maintenance of good relations, their activities soon became a great success.

Today

Beginning of 2003 the company name Breitenstein Products was changed into Demerara Distillers Europe to emphasize the international character of the operations of the company and the bond with the holding company Demerara Distillers in South America. The company now deals in ingredients, products and brands. Our suppliers are located in the tropics and subtropics and our customers in Europe. The company now dealt in a full range of rum.

Philosophy

We consider a knowledge of the production country and its products essential to our activities. Our staff are fascinated by the tropics and subtropics and know the products, suppliers and customers inside-out. Good relations in the producing country as well as the purchasing country and an understanding of their needs are essential. It is this philosophy that has made our 140 years of success possible.
