Rum Production

Tradition and technology

Demerara Distillers Europe has the right to exclusively import and distribute the products made by Demarara Distillers. Demerara Distillers has the facilities to produce every type of rum, from traditional pot still flavour rums and heavy rums through to medium and light rums, plus a range of quality alcohols. The company has assured supplies of its basic raw material, molasses, from locally-grown sugar-cane. Its distilleries are entirely self-sufficient, with their own capability for steam and electricity generation, water supplies, water treatment, quality control and process laboratories.

DDL also possesses its own CO2 plant, winery, aerated drinks factory and bottling plant. Warehousing for over 50,000 barrels ensures availability of aged spirits for premium rums, and extensive additional storage is currently under construction. As well as the most up-to-date distillation equipment, DDL possesses a wealth of traditional expertise, with old-style Demerara pot stills, and patent rum and alcohol stills.

The last fully operating rectangular wooden Coffey still in the Western world continues to be used for the production of special rums of unique character. In addition, the company has a gin-flavouring still, liqueur production facilities and raw sugar caramel plants. The corporate head office, marketing division, central quality control laboratory, R&D department, export terminal and shipping office are all located in Georgetown.
